NEDFYS social workers want to work alongside police, not be the police.  NEDFYS therapists know that they are a support, not a substitute for police response when it is requested or when community safety requires it.  Our partnership with police can serve as a model for other communities who want to prevent crime, save lives, rebuild families, and restore hope.

–Shannon Hartnett, Letter to the Editor, September 2020

“The Itasca Police Department is a founding member of NEDFYS and will continue to utilize their outstanding services to the community when people are often most vulnerable”.

“As a result of our partnership with NEDFYS we are able to offer “true help” to those in our community in need of assistance on a spectrum of services”.

“The Itasca Police Department has benefited immensely from the outstanding service received from NEDFYS.  Officers now have a gateway in providing information to those identified in need of the services rendered through the Northeast DuPage Family and Youth Services”.

"Partnering with NEDFYS has allowed the residents of Glendale Heights to have personal contact with a licensed clinical social worker. It also gets us an immediate response on other mental health related crisis calls as well as an advocate who can work with our victims of domestic violence."

"I'm also proud of the partnership the 18th Judicial Circuit Court's Family Violence Coordinating Council enjoys with NEDFYS and the other youth service organizations in DuPage County. Keep up the great work!"

"Our relationship with Shannon and her staff has made a significant impact. Our calls involving individuals in crisis have not reduced but we have seen a reduction in repeated calls with the same individuals."
